Lily Pup

I've wanted to quill something for my brother-in-law for a while. I thought that he would appreciate a picture of his dog and figured that it might help me to grieve the recent loss of my beloved dog in the meantime.

His pup is a brown and white Boston Terrier.

It took me a while to get the eyes right because she was squinting in the picture that I have of her. I started much too small but finally got them to be in better proportion.

I included some crimped strips of paper in the ears and I love the way that they came out.

The next step was the fur on the face. Rather than quill thin marquis, which was my original plan, I decided to lay pieces individually on edge.

Below the dog's face, I included some lilies to represent her name.

I wanted to fill the background and decided to use the beehive quilling technique.

I like this technique because it fills the space quickly but still looks beautiful.

I did not like that I could see the edge of the base paper when I adhered it to my larger background piece, though, so I chose another color, green to highlight the flower stems, and did a border around the blue background. It is slightly lower than the blue, but it did a great job of hiding the paper edge.

I'll see my brother-in-law in a few weeks. I hope he likes this picture of his pup!

It feels like it's only been a few days, but it's been just about a month now since I've had the delight of having Sirius in my life. Siri was my shadow and a constant comforting presence for nearly 15 years. It is a huge adjustment to not have him around anymore. I keep expecting to see him in the blankets on the couch or hovering behind me in the kitchen hoping for a piece of freshly baked bread. This loss has created a hole in my heart. Time keeps moving along and I am so thankful for all of the days I had with him.
